Carlton Cole hopes to further his England ambitions by showing Fabio Capello he is capable of forging the perfect strike partnership with Jermain Defoe. The West Ham United marksman was a revelation when he appeared as a second-half substitute against the Netherlands ten days ago, helping England overcome a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2.
Working well in tandem with fellow substitute Defoe, Cole drew rich praise from Capello and earned comparison with Emile Heskey. It was only his third cap, but Cole has made rapid progress under manager Gianfranco Zola and hopes to follow in Defoe's footsteps.
